Why Tallahassee trees need attention
Tallahassee is one of the most heavily wooded cities in the South, and that canopy comes with work. Tall pines and big live, laurel and water oaks grow right next to houses, and our weather puts them under real stress.
In May 2024, two tornadoes crossed the city on the same morning, and most of the damage was to trees: hundreds came down, and about half of Tallahassee lost power at one point. Hurricane season, from June through November, brings the same risk every year.
The trees most likely to fail are the ones already showing it: dead or dying pines, oaks with cracks or hollow spots, and trees leaning harder than they used to. Handling those before a storm is cheaper and safer than after one.

Areas served
All of Tallahassee and Leon County, plus nearby towns in Wakulla, Gadsden and Jefferson counties.
Permits: inside Tallahassee city limits, removing some protected trees needs a City of Tallahassee tree permit. In unincorporated Leon County, trees on developed lots can often be removed without one, but canopy roads, wetlands and other protected zones have extra rules, and a tree a certified arborist documents as a safety hazard can be removed without a permit (Leon County FAQ). A local tree company can tell you what applies to your tree.
