What tree work costs in Tallahassee
Typical price ranges, and the things that push a quote up or down. The company doing the work always sets the final price.
Typical ranges
| Job | Typical range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tree removal | $400 to $2,000 | Large trees, crane work and trees over houses can cost more |
| Tree trimming | $85 to $1,700 per tree | About $475 on average; tall trees over roofs at the top end |
| Stump grinding | $131 to $438 per stump | About $272 on average; less each when several are done |
| Debris hauling | $100 to $600 | Sometimes included in the quote, sometimes not |
| Lot clearing | Quoted per job | Depends on acreage, density and haul-off |
National ranges from HomeAdvisor (removal), GreenPal (trimming and hauling) and LawnStarter (stump grinding). Local quotes vary.
What pushes the price up
- Height and trunk size. More wood and more climbing time.
- What's underneath. A roof, pool cage, fence or power line means lowering every piece by rope, which can add 25% to 50%.
- Access. Backyards with no gate wide enough for equipment mean hand-carrying or a crane.
- Dead or storm-damaged trees. Riskier to climb and cut.
- Emergencies. After a big storm, demand spikes and so do prices.
- Dense hardwoods. Big oaks are heavier and slower to cut and haul than pines.
What brings it down
- Bundling several trees, or removal plus stump grinding, into one visit
- Keeping the logs for firewood or the chips for mulch
- Open space where the tree can be dropped in one piece
- Scheduling non-urgent work in late winter or early spring
